tags, social annotation, geotagging.

Tags are hot, tags are cool, tags are (not true, but should be) everywhere.
Technically the base concept is not so different from plain old keywords, yet it's radically new since it adds a social/distributed dimension and browsing paradigm.
The whole thing became famous thanks to del.icio.us and its "social bookmarking" concept, and then it was adopted by other social tools like flickr.

Now, we are seeing all kind of interesting applications of the tagging concept springing around:
Yesterday
Mikel Maron wrote
this post as a follow on
these considerations on using del.icio.us to create space annotating services.
Mikel actually created a
worldkit app that let's you insert hyperlinks on a world map, using del.icio.us'
geolicious tag as a shared media.
By now this is just a hack, since the metadata is embedded in the extra fields allowed by del.icio.us;
but just think of what it would be possible if bookmark could be
geotagged!
For example we could build maps showing location of entries bookmarked for example under "restaurant" AND "london", and so on...
